What is an AGM battery?

An AGM battery, or in full Absorbed Glass Matt battery, is a lead-acid battery in which fiberglass mats are sandwiched between the lead in the battery to absorb the acidic liquid (electrolyte) needed to generate electric power. This design makes AGM batteries leak-free because the electrolyte is held by the fiberglass mat and does not flow around freely as in traditional lead-acid batteries. This offers several strong advantages.

The advantages of an AGM battery

Safe and maintenance-free
AGM batteries are safer because they contain no liquid acid that can leak or spill. They also require no maintenance such as refilling distilled water.

✓ High performance
They can deliver a higher current and have a faster charge time than traditional lead-acid batteries. This makes an AGM battery ideal for applications that require high current, such as starting engines or powering heavy electrical systems.

✓ Long life
AGM batteries can withstand deep discharges and have a longer life than traditional lead-acid batteries.

✓ Flexible installation
Because they are leak-proof, AGM batteries can be installed in any position except completely upside down, offering more installation flexibility.

✓ Vibration-resistant
The fiberglass mat design makes AGM batteries resistant to vibration, making them suitable for use in mobile applications such as vehicles and boats.

Applications of an AGM battery

Its ability to provide reliable power in a durable, maintenance-free package makes the AGM battery a popular choice for many applications. From boating, vehicle and solar power systems to emergency power supplies, elevators, medical devices and more.
