Plug and play mobile power supply

Off-grid building and working

How did the collaboration with Intercel go?

“It started with our idea to develop a new hybrid and mobile genset especially suitable for the construction and residential market. Particularly high energy density, operational reliability and ease of use were prerequisites for this. Because of our experience with engines, this part of the generator was quickly clear; to properly engineer and build the battery part, we needed an experienced partner. Intercel stepped in with its expertise and in no time we were able to start building together.”

What challenges did you encounter?

“Because we have high demands for power and ease of use, this is a real innovation project. The generator had to be delivered in a 10-foot container to ensure mobile characteristics for the end user. That meant we had to build very compactly. Furthermore, safety is an important component where the temperature of the installation must remain low. Intercel’s unique batteries ensured that there is little heat generation and the capacity is large at 60 kWh. All in all, it seemed like a big puzzle beforehand, but due to Intercel’s excellent thinking along, the puzzle was quickly put together. The end result is a compact, “Plug & Play” mobile power supply that is easy to use anywhere and saves between 20 to some 70% in diesel costs.”

What is important to De Wit?

“We offer a wide range of gensets, especially the rental market is important to us and we build customized gensets for medical applications and events, for example.
With the rapid increase in sustainability, we need partners who are real experts in their field.
There are quite a few cowboys in the market who claim they can do everything but don’t succeed in practice.
Intercel succeeds.
They have an open culture, they offer expert knowledge and deliver unique batteries.
In other words, we had an idea and Intercel made sure it could be implemented.

What will be the next innovation?

“That will be another big step. We want to start offering a hybrid genset with even greater capacity, toward 200 kVA and 400 kWh! This of course creates new challenges that need to be solved. This requires specific knowledge from us as well as from Intercel, but we are convinced that this will succeed again.”
