What are lead carbon batteries?

Lead carbon batteries are lead batteries with a carbon addition. The battery is constructed much the same as an AGM battery. The difference is that the negative plates of a lead carbon battery are composed of lead and carbon. This material allows the acid to pass through and disperse better, resulting in faster charging, lower internal resistance, greater capacity and prevention of sulfation. Sulfation often occurs when a battery is not used for a long time, or is discharged too deeply. Thanks to these properties, lead carbon batteries are well suited for a number of specific applications.

Discover the benefits of lead carbon batteries

Lead carbon batteries, also known as lead carbon batteries, have a number of important advantages over other deep-cycle batteries. Intercel lists them for you.

Long lifespan

The addition of carbon to the battery reduces internal resistance and self-discharge when not in use. This has a beneficial effect on battery life. In addition, the service life is extended because the batteries sulfate significantly less than comparable battery types. Thus, at 80% discharge, the battery can last up to more than 1,000 cycles.

Fast charging

Thanks to its innovative composition, lead carbon batteries charge faster than traditional lead batteries. This saves time, so you can quickly get back to what you were doing. When you use the lead carbon battery in conjunction with a battery charger from Intercel, you get a 2-year warranty on the battery!

Part loads no problem

A lead carbon battery does not need to be fully charged to achieve peak performance. Thus, you can safely use the battery when it is not fully charged. Intermediate charging also has no negative effect on performance or battery life. The battery can be discharged up to 80% without any problem.

Maintenance-free

Lead carbon batteries are maintenance-free. Due to the very low self-discharge and excellent protection against sulfation, you can safely put the battery away for a long time. For example, when you bring it out after the winter season, it immediately delivers outstanding performance again.

Great power

Lead carbon batteries have high power compared to other lead-acid batteries, making them suitable for applications that demand them.

Resistant to low temperatures

The batteries are not sensitive to extreme temperatures, and are excellent for use at very low temperatures.

Same dimensions as AGM batteries

Lead carbon batteries have the same dimensions as many standard AGM batteries. As a result, AGM batteries and gel batteries can be effortlessly replaced 1-to-1.

What applications are lead carbon batteries suitable for?

Lead carbon batteries are suitable for a variety of applications. Due to their fast charging times, high efficiency and user-friendliness, you can use them as:
