Advanced lithium batteries for masonry robots from Monumental

Since early this year, we at Intercel have been supplying our latest generation of CLF 80-24 lithium iron phosphate batteries to Monumental, a fast-growing scale-up transforming the construction industry with advanced masonry robots. Designed specifically for mobile applications, this battery doubles the battery life compared to previous models – a great step forward toward more sustainable and smarter construction.

Battery technology for smart, self-learning construction robots

Monumental’s masonry robots consist of three cooperating modules (for bricks, cement and placement) and take repetitive masonry work off your hands. Our CLF 80-24 battery powers one such module for a full working day or longer.

With nearly 2 kWh of capacity, integrated communication via RS485 and CAN bus, and real-time monitoring of temperature and state of charge, among others, this battery seamlessly meets Monumental’s need for reliability, safety and efficiency.

From initial testing to long-term collaboration

Our collaboration with Monumental began in 2023, when they were looking for a wireless power solution for their modular robots. We have since had the opportunity to supply dozens of batteries, and by the end of 2025 we expect to deliver the 100th CLF 80-24. “Although we only had a few requests at the time, Intercel took us seriously from the beginning and helped test and validate our systems,” says James McVay. “The reliability and long service life of these batteries allow our masonry robots to be used much more widely. Even in locations without a fixed power supply. In doing so, we are lowering barriers to adoption among construction companies.”

Durable, robust and future-oriented

Our CLF 80-24 is based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP): a safe, stable and environmentally friendly battery chemistry. The system can withstand harsh conditions (from -10°C to 40°C) and is designed for a service life of 10 to 20 years. By working with comprehensive safety labels, we ensure that the solution is not only technically, but also legally and ethically future-proof.
